About Benito Barrios

Benito Barrios is a community leader and Marine Corps veteran who served on San Bernardino’s City Council from 2013 to 2018. He’s running for City Council in 2026 to serve as the responsive and effective advocate that Ward 2 residents deserve to have fighting for them at City Hall.

Benito grew up in San Bernardino and graduated from Pacific High School. Five days after graduating, he enlisted in the Marines and served his country for 16 years as a radio operator and radio chief. Benito served in 10 different countries, including Iraq, and he was awarded the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement.

Following his Military career, Benito returned home to San Bernardino where he attended San Bernardino Valley College and the University of Phoenix. In 2011, he became a life insurance broker with PHP Agency. He’s currently a Marketing Director with the company.

In 2013, Benito was elected to the San Bernardino City Council. During his term, he focused on public safety, housing, and job creation. Benito helped lead the city out of bankruptcy and was instrumental in ensuring city employees from the trash hauling department were hired by Burrtec when they took over trash collection. He also served as a Board Member for the California League of Cities Inland Empire Division, on the Board of Directors for a nonprofit focused on helping troubled youth, and was involved with Water Education for Latino Leaders (W.E.L.L.).

Currently, Benito serves as the Junior Vice Commandant for the Marine Corps League Detachment 1459 and as the Inland Empire Regional Director for the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
